For the average East German the possibilities on offer during his free time weren't, perhaps, as dazzling as those enjoyed in the West. That did have, however, one advantage: there was a great deal of reading done!

What had once been hotly sought-after and frequently traded - the East German written word - often landed in the trash following Reunification.

We were able to save large quantities of books, magazines, documents and recordings. The result is our Specialized Library where the Librarian is already at work - full steam ahead.
